Posturology

The body is a complex, integrated system that receives sensory input from the outside environment by receiving signals from the feet, eyes, skin, and mouth. Ideally, all these systems should work synergistically with each other to provide input simultaneously to the brain. If a signal coming from one or more of these system’s receptors is inhibited or impaired the body’s natural response is to make an adaptation leading to imbalances. Posturology addresses these flawed receptor sites recalibrating their input pathways so the body is brought back into balance.

The brain is where all bodily movement originates. Before any movement conscious can occur, the brain must be able to decipher where the body is in space. It achieves this through sensory input from visual, auditory, and tactile feedback. Communication in the brain is done through different types of neurons. In the case of movement it uses sensory neurons to gather environmental information and sends signals from the brain and spinal cord to the motor neurons to generate muscular contractions. If a body is in a constant state of imbalance the neurons are in a perpetual state of working overtime. Over time, the brain recognizes these misaligned, improper postural adaptations as being normal and the tension throughout the muscles begin to change. This can lead to an injury, chronic pain, deficiencies in training, and an overall decline in health.
